Welcome Patti! I would add one more thing just to make sure everything is crystal clear ( and hopefully not end up confusing you even more). You are totally right that with a bred out kitty, unlike a starter, whatever is hidden is from the pedigree and not just a random trait. It is important to remember, however, that all the kitties in the pedigree have their hiddens as well so something could come down the line, staying hidden, then pop out like your red and white tabby. This is probably one of the most fun parts, you are breeding along with your nice little kitties then *bam* all of a sudden one of them throws a trait you had no idea was even a possibility! so exciting! Try this mental model.
"Let's make a box." (That is, we have a 'box' and let's rez it in-world for the first time.)
Take an envelope. Label it "Fur". Mom and dad each have one already.
Reach into Mom's envelope and pull out one of the two slips of paper there. Make a copy and put it back.
Reach into Dad's envelope and put out one of the two slips of paper there, too. Make a copy of it and put it back.
Compare the two copies. Let's say one reads "Balinese Seal Lynx" and the other reads "Red Tabby". Check Saga's charts. Red Tabby is "dominant". Write "Red Tabby" on the "Fur" envelope for our new box. Put both slips into the envelope.
Repeat for all nine traits. When all nine envelopes (eye color, eye shape, etc.) are done we have a box.

Good mental model.
Now if I could just stop pulling that 'Genesis Earth' piece of paper,
I would be doing a lot better!
Sooner or later you just hope somebody will quit tossing out
the lame gen traits and you can get em filtered out!

You know Tad, your coin toss sometimes seems to have 'heads' on both sides!

Wait! Is it possible to have a cat with a genesis shown fur, AND a
genesis hidden fur????
A DEAD END KITTEH???

Where's that friggin' SEARCH button???

RE: Help me sort something out please?
If you have a starter, no it's not possible that the Genesis fur hides another Genesis. But, if it's an offspring, yes, it's quite possible. That said, it's not only possible, we should expect, that, sometimes, you'll get a long string of "heads" tosses. When you're searching, look for "all male" or "all female" and I'm sure you'll find that old thread about randomness.
