How do I get jewels?

Can anyone please tell me how I get jewels?

Two ways:

1) quick, but expensive .. purchase or trade for them

2) cheap, but tediously slow .. collect them as the appear, at random (and VERY, Very, very, exceedingly rarely) when you produce a box.

What Tad said, plus...

Once you have a Fancie cat, it will give you a random gem with every box.
The partner can be any KittyCat (of the appropriate age, gender, etc.), so you only need one Fancie, but it costs a lot of L$ to get the first one. I collected gems when I found good deals on them to get mine and sent around L$50,000 at last Spring's prices.
