RE: Russian? Really?
As I understand it, "the right Linux" for Apple is called "Mac OS X" or later. There's a free version of it somewhere at Apple which I used to use to ensure cross-platform Unix (actually, POSIX) compatibility. I never did much with it, though, because someone at Apple would do the port to OS X for me.

RE: Russian? Really?
Err... slightly perplexed there Tad.
MacOS is the Apple OS. "MacOS Vista" is the nickname some give to Lion (MacOS 10.7) as it is just plain awful compared to the former versions. This is what i have installed now and was wanting to use Ubuntu as well. The installation process being pretty hermetic to the uninitiated i just don't know how to go about it, and apparently Ubuntu has become even more complicated to install on the most recent generation Macs and there's very little info available on the web... even in Russian Big Grin

RE: Russian? Really?
Yeah, I remember a lot of people didn't like the change from the original Mac OS kernel to the Linux-based Mac OS kernel and, yeah, if I recall (it's been a LONG time) the switch was mid-stream in the version 10 series. Dunno if Apple switched back but they seemed pretty intense on the shift to a Linux-based kernel. I always figured the paucity of Linux ports to Apple was a result of Apples direct adoption of the kernel. But, if any have appeared, I'm sure someone has done a point-and-shoot install and Umbutu would be a likely candidate for that. I mainly stick to Solaris, BSD and a few Linux distributions, all for PC, and never really do much with my Apple vhost. Best I can suggest is a web search: if there is a good point-and-shoot Linux out there for Apple hardware it should not be too hard to find.
